Bible Society and Catholics Cooperate in Translation
Oct 16, 2008
Bible Societies worldwide and the Catholic Church have worked together over the past 40 years to complete 134 separate Bible translations.
Bible Society world head, Rev Dr Miller Milloy, thanked the Church for its help but emphasized the scale of the task yet to be done.
Speaking to the Synod of Bishops at the Vatican this month he said "it is surely to the shame of all churches and all Christians that, with 7,000 languages in the world, only in 438 of them is there a translation of the complete Bible."
Earlier in the Synod the UBS and the Catholic Biblical Federation signed a new Joint Partnership on Bible Ministry, which is further evidence of the growing collaboration between the two organisations.
