Remember us in your will

"Each of you must make up your own mind about how much to give. But don't feel sorry that you must give and don't feel you are forced to give. God loves people who love to give" 2 Corinthians 9:7

If you are considering leaving a gift to Bible Society in your Will, we unreservedly make this promise to you:

That we will both carefully and prayerfully use any amount given for the on-going distribution of God's Word, the Bible, to those who need it most wherever in the world that need may be.

If you are about to make a Will

If you are about to make a Will and you want to include in your Will a gift for Bible work, then the typical wording which you would use is:

I give the sum of $_____ * free of all duties to The Bible Society in New Zealand (Inc.) for the general purposes of the Society. I declare that the receipt of the secretary or treasurer of the Society shall be sufficient discharge to my Trustee(s) for such a gift.

* Instead of naming a particular amount of money in dollar terms in your Will, you may whish to state a percentage, or fraction of your estate, or leave the residue (after making provision for your family and other concerns) of your estate or specified asset(s). With inflation constantly rising, a set amount soon begins to lose its value and when it is finally paid out it may well be considerably less than was originally intended. So stating a percentage or fraction of the total estate is a good option.

If you have already made your Will and want to make a gift to the Bible Society, then you:

  • Make a new Will and include in it a gift to the Bible Society; or
  • Add what is termed a ‘codicil’ to your Will. This is a separate document but still part of your Will.

The wording will be much like this:

This is the (number of the codicil to the Will… e.g. first, second, third, etc) codicil of the last Will of (name) of (place of residence) (Occupation) which Will bears the (date) ____ day of ____ (month), (year).
I want to add to my Will and insert the following clause: (No. of clause) I give to the Bible Society in New Zealand (Inc.) the sum of $____ for the general purposes of the Society and in all other respects I confirm my said Will.

Again please note that instead of naming a specific sum of money you may want to state a percentage, fraction or the residue of your estate or specified asset(s).
